THE PERFECT DESK LAMPS FOR YOUR HOME OFFICE

Your home office lighting is much more important than you might think. The primary purpose of lighting is to illuminate an area so that you can see. But lighting is used for so much more and plays such an essential role in setting a mood – who doesn’t love candles for date night or an atmospheric floor lamp for a quiet evening in? But for working, you tend to need something much more practical and focused – and generally that means choosing a good desk lamp.
At a time when - thanks to the global pandemic - the number of home offices is increasing worldwide, we've got a selection of desk lights available for you to choose from so you can easily find something that also fits in with the aesthetic of your home office.

Desk lamps as task lighting

Desk lights are often referred to as task lighting as the light is pooled onto a small area driving your focus to the task at hand. The perfect desk lamp will provide a focused stream of light that keeps you alert, reduces eye strain, and boosts productivity.

Layered lighting

To get the best lighting solution in your home office, you need to explore what natural light sources you already have in the room and where the underlit areas are located. Layered lighting solutions, such as ceiling lights and floor lamps, can be used to improve ambient lighting. You can then add smaller desk lamps where you need direct light beams to support tasks such as reading, writing, and computer work.

Illuminate without glare

Whilst task lighting is fantastic for detailed work or later in the day when your eyes are tired and daylight is fading, it may not be the best solution for illuminating a desk space without introducing glare. Everyone's needs are different, but by having indirect or diffused lighting through the use of lampshades or floor lamps, you can illuminate your workspace without introducing glare or shadows.

Space-saving solutions

We don't all have room for a dedicated office, but you can create zones within your space for different purposes with intelligent lighting. For example, by introducing ceiling pendant lights, you can remove the need for a desk lamp cluttering your workspace while benefitting from an excellent light source.

Accent lighting

Accent lighting serves both practical and decorative purposes. It’s a supporting light source designed to illuminate interesting architectural features, artwork or dark spaces around shelving or cupboards.

Make a statement

Home office lighting can move beyond the utilitarian lighting you’ll find in a commercial office space. You can use lighting to make bold style statements, blending desk lamps with floor lamps and ceiling lights to fit with the look of your home décor.
Blending ambient, accent and task lighting together with maximising the available daylight sources in your room will create a stylish home office that will protect your eyesight and enhance your productivity.
